Tool # 11 Reflection

1. I have been using several of the tools before this project, but he first and probably the oldest of my favorites is Google earth.
Google doc’s would be my second favorite; I mainly like its accessibility and the multiple features it has.

2. As I mentioned I have implemented some of the tools in the class as stations already, it is my goal to continue on the same track. I would like to apply most of the stuff I learned consistently in the class.
3. I had to figure it out how to take pictures of the screen I was working on in order to improve the blog’s presentation. I thought it would be more difficult to complete all the tools but it actually was a fun learning experience.

Tool # 10 Digital citizenship

1. -Why is so important avoid access blocked websites.
-Expectations about Internet and technology practice in the classroom.
-Categorize examples and non-examples of responsible web practices.

2. Digital Citizenship - Address the diverse needs of all learners by using learner-centered strategies providing equitable access to appropriate digital tools and resources.

3. Promoting and modeling digital etiquette and responsible social interactions related to the use of technology and information

4. Send letter home explaining the meaning of Digital Citizenship with a copy of the letter they signed at the beginning of the year regarding technology, usage rights and responsibilities.

Tool #9 Incorporating Devices

  1. It is important to communicate to students the way in which technology will be integrated as a tool in the lesson.

  2. Accountability is applicable to any lesson/station or activity; therefore technology should not be the exception. Technology will be relevant if we assess students practice consistently.

  1. I like learning games for kids; it can be used as a station for almost any subject.
I find Study ladder very motivational because of its instant feedback and rewards.

  1. Pop Math is a practical addition/subtraction math facts application. As you know practice on that matter is very important so they can improve their skills; kids also love practicing using this app.

  1. Kids can use these devices in too many ways not only as stations but also as cameras, voice recorders and video recorders. A reader’s theater can be made if you record their voices and then take pictures from the book finally putting them together in a presentation. Evernote is a useful app to take notes and to bookmark Internet pages, pictures or text for you to open them on different devices under the same account. I believe that during the year I’ll come up with a lot more of ideas.

Tool # 8 Two things I learned

As I mentioned in a previous post, most of the resources that generally were found online as PC platforms are now moving towards I tunes store as applications to support their video streaming or as books, the first example that I plan to implement as quick as possible is Brain pop. It can be either consulted on the blog and individually as an application in the Ipads/Ipods.

Recently reading A-Z also moved a selection of their guided reading leveled books. This is especially important because it can be applied also during independent reading time as a motivator for students reading below grade level.

Tool # 7 Poetry Project

Last year during the fourth nine weeks period second graders consume and produce poetry in Spanish. We took some poems from different online sources from around the world, some from Spain and a few others from Mexico, resulting in a fun reading/writing experience, especially for the vocabulary differences. It would be a good idea to collaborate & present poesy through Skype in real time along with another Spanish speaking class.

Topics could be alike considering similarities between curriculums and related to other subjects for example Plants (science) or Heroes (Social Studies). Ideas brainstorming/discussion would be important as part of the development of the project. A whole class introduction is necessary, however individual communication using personal devices (like IPods) is ideal to achieve a closer collaboration.

In general, this represents a challenging multidisciplinary project, however it ‘s been demonstrated that most of the times kids are talented using technology and we tend to underestimate their actual skills.

Tool #6 Skype & Face time

Personally I like to use Face time for the sharper video and the clear audio it provides, nevertheless to take part of a Face time conversation you must have an apple device or a Mac. On the other hand Skype can be installed in almost any PC and it gives you a lot more options like having a multi-video conference with up to 4 of your contacts.

Tool #5 Badge

Badges are necessary during field trips here is an example. You can create them online, save them as a JPG file and then just print them out.
